I started my natural hair journey in 2014. Or I should say the ideas of beginning my natural hair journey began in late Fall of 2013. I had my oldest daughter late 2012 and was still nursing her.
I decided to take some time for me one afternoon and go to get my hair relaxed or rather, tex-laxed (a milder relaxer). What was supposed to be a quick 2-hour "me time" ended up being over 6-hours. I am sure that comes as no surprise to most ladies who go to the hair salon.
You can even see how upset I was on my way home.

By the time I got home, I was fully engorged and in PAIN! I made the decision that day to never allow my time to be monopolized that way again. I decided I could do better taking care of my own hair at home.
Now, almost 5 years later, I haven't looked back and I am very happy with the decision I made.

My journey was not easy because I had to learn my hair type, then learn what products and techniques worked for my hair and then how to style my hair. Let's just say, there was a lot of learning.

Through it all, the biggest lesson I learned was that my hair needs moisture to thrive! There was no other way around it. I tried using one of the satin ties I had at home but often found that when I tied it too tight, I woke up with a headache and when I tied it looser, I woke up with my the scarf somewhere on my bed and not on my head.
Fast forward to 2016. I decided to start wearing bonnets instead. I noticed that I woke up with fewer headaches and didn't have to worry about where my bonnet was the next morning because it was always where I left it. On my head.
My hair THRIVED wearing a hair bonnet.
